Mr Whinge has a bee in his bonnet (not that he actually wears a bonnet, of course) about ‘Strictly’. Every time it is mentioned on TV he has a ‘Grrr!’ moment. He rants that the programme is not called ‘Strictly’ but is actually ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. It is one example of how we have become lazy in speech. I’m sure you can think of lots of others ‘TOWIE’ (The Only Way is Essex), ‘Corrie’ (Coronation Street) and OBEM (One Born Every Minute) for example. It is the speech equivalent of a hashtag, I suppose. How long before we actually have to start speaking in acronyms then?
